Privacy Policy

Swander · Last updated: 6 May 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Swander ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects information when you use the Swander mobile application and related online features made available with it (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

The Service is operated by the publisher of the Swander app. For privacy correspondence, use the contact email at the end of this policy.

1. Who may use the Service

The Service is intended solely for individuals who are at least eighteen (18) years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we hold information about someone under 18, contact us and we will take steps to delete it where required by law.

2. Information we collect

The categories below depend on how you use the Service and what permissions you grant on your device.

2.1 Account and sign-in

If you register or sign in (for example using Sign in with Apple or another method offered in the app), we receive identifiers and profile elements that the provider shares with your consent, such as a stable user identifier, email address when you choose to share it, and display name. We use this information to create and secure your account.

2.2 Profile and content you provide

Information you add to the Service may include display name, biography text, profile imagery, routes and route-related media, posts and comments in community areas, swap requests and related messages shown inside the Service, saved items, and preferences. You decide how much to share; consider that content you publish may be visible to other users according to the features you use.

2.3 In-app purchase and subscription data

When you make an in-app purchase (such as buying Swander Coins or subscribing to VIP membership), all payment processing is handled exclusively by the Apple App Store or the applicable official app store. We do not collect, see, or store your payment card number, billing address, or any financial credentials.

We do receive from the store a confirmation of the transaction, which may include: the type and identifier of the product purchased, the date and time of the transaction, a transaction or receipt identifier issued by the store, and your store account identifier in anonymized form where provided. We use this information solely to verify and activate what you purchased (for example, crediting Swander Coins to your account or activating your VIP status), to maintain accurate records of in-app entitlements, and to handle support requests related to your purchases.

We retain purchase confirmation records for as long as reasonably needed to administer your account, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and maintain transaction audit logs consistent with applicable accounting and consumer-protection requirements.

2.4 Usage and device data

We collect technical and operational information needed to run and improve the Service, such as device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, approximate timestamps of actions, diagnostic logs, crash reports, and similar telemetry. We may also record how you navigate and use features in aggregate or pseudonymous form to understand performance and usability.

2.5 Places in content (no GPS collection)

The version of Swander described by this policy does not request access to your device's GPS or other precise or coarse location signals, and we do not collect continuous or background location from your phone or tablet. Route listings, walk check-ins, posts, and profiles may include place names, addresses, or similar descriptions that users type or attach as ordinary content; we process that information as part of profile and user-generated content, not as automated positioning from your device.

2.6 Others

If other users mention you, tag content, or interact with your posts or routes, we may process related identifiers and content as part of operating those features.

3. How we use information

We use information for purposes including:

4. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland, and similar jurisdictions)

Where the General Data Protection Regulation or comparable laws apply, we rely on one or more of the following: performance of a contract with you (including processing purchases to deliver what you paid for); our legitimate interests that are not overridden by your rights (such as securing the Service, preventing fraud, and improving features); your consent where we ask for it; and compliance with legal obligations. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal, unless law requires otherwise.

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information as that term is commonly understood in privacy laws. We may disclose information as follows:

6. International transfers

We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. When we transfer personal data from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland to countries that have not received an adequacy decision, we implement safeguards such as standard contractual clauses approved by regulators or other lawful mechanisms.

7. Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Retention periods vary by data type and context. Purchase transaction records may be retained for longer periods where required by applicable tax, accounting, or consumer-protection law. When retention ends, we delete or anonymize information, subject to backup systems where deletion may take additional time.

8. Security

We implement administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. No electronic transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security. Payment security for in-app purchases is the responsibility of the applicable app store operator.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent where processing is consent-based; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You may adjust certain choices in the app and device settings. To exercise rights not available in the app, email us using the address below. We will respond in line with applicable law after verifying your request.

Deletion of your account will remove your profile and associated content from the Service, but we may retain purchase records and transaction identifiers for the period required by applicable law or for resolving outstanding disputes.

We do not rely on solely automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you, unless we describe such processing in the app and provide a meaningful way to obtain human review or contest the decision where applicable law requires.

10. California residents

If California law applies to you, you may have additional rights regarding personal information under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including rights to know categories of information collected, to delete certain information, and to opt out of sales or sharing as defined by California law. We describe categories of collection above, including purchase and transaction data in Section 2.3. We do not sell personal information within the meaning of California law. To submit a request, use the contact email below and describe your request clearly.

11. Third-party services

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or rely on third-party components such as operating-system sign-in, app store payment processing (Apple App Store), analytics SDKs, or tools used when you add photos from your library or camera. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We encourage you to read those policies before you use those services. In particular, Apple's privacy policy governs all payment processing for in-app purchases made through the App Store.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version in the app or alongside legal materials and update the "Last updated" date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as appropriate under law. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy where permitted by law.
